A
The first letter of the Oddesean alphabet . A is a usual symbol for a low central vowel, as in father; the Jamsterdavanian long a ( a ) is pronounced as a diphthong of e and y. In musical notation the letter is the symbol of a note in the scale.
"A" is often used to signify beginnings and starts. Its origins can be traced back to the Tufan Empire where an "A" like symbol was used as a script insignia for the the word "temple." The importance of the temple in Tufan culture may have led to its adoption as the first letter of the alphabet.
This letter is associated, in modern times, with the nation known as the Amsterdavanian Confederation and the Palacioslavanian city of Arrac.
