Amsterdavania-
Amsterdavania is the name given a nation and continent of great environmental and cultural contrast. Vast Antwan grasslands, Hoyian tropical rainforests, and the Jaydean highlands and deserts sustained distinct pre-Civilized ways of life. In the grasslands, people lived in small bands and hunted Amsta (a member of the camel family) and flightless birds called Davans.

Land and Resources
Amsterdavania, the planet's 4th largest continent includes (3) countries (The Amsterdavanian Confederation, Clatia and Jaydea), and (3) major territories (The North, the West Coast and the East Coast). The continent contains the Hoyian River and rainforest, the Jaydean Mountains, and some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. The continent's (highest point) is Reyes, Jaydean Mountains, 22, 833ft (6,959m), while the lowest point is on the Peninsula Maxwell 151 ft (40m) below sea level.

Forests in Amsterdavania, specifically tropical rain forests, are known to play a very important role in maintaining the ecological integrity of Oddesea. Twenty five percent (25%) of the world's forests are located in Amsterdavania, fifty-two percent (52%) of the world's tropical forests, as well as a significant amount of temperate and semi-temperate forests.

Forest conservation in Amsterdavania is directly linked to people's lives, to their standard of living, and to the survival of their culture. The forests are a significant source of fuel ethno-pharmacological products, and other non-timber forest products, such as fruit and wildlife. To most, forests are the source of income and employment, although most other sources of Amsterdavania’s food and economic resources are obtained from Amsterdavania’s primary colony, Swamptree on Dununder. People-
About 60 percent of Amsterdavania’s population is descended from the original Deutscheslavanian and Dannunifian settlers that explored and settled Amsterdavania in the 1500’s. They are concentrated, mostly, in the urban areas along the coasts.

Jamsterdavanian is the official and most dominant language spoken in Amsterdavania with 70 percent of the population, with Deutscheslavanian and second with 15 percent, Dannunifian is third with 10 percent and Jaydean with 5 percent.

In the Jaydaes, people transformed the landscape by terracing steep slopes and irrigating deserts. Their farming sustained permanent settlements and laid the foundations for the remarkable civilizations that astounded the Deutscheslavanian conquerors that arrived in the 14th century. In the tropical forests, people lived in communal houses, grew manioc in small clearings, and depended heavily on wild animals and plants.

Like their Northern Jamsterdavanian counterparts, Amster hunters pursued their prey on foot before they acquired horses. They hunted Amsta and Davans, a flightless bird. Instead of bows and arrows, they used spears that impaled the animals.

A silver hunchback figure seated on an Amsta called Vallec was created between 1330-1432. It is representative of Amster metallurgy, which for three millennia had produced increasingly sophisticated works in silver, gold, copper, bronze, and platinum. Vallec may have been a god that the pagan Jaydeans worshiped.

Native peoples constitute a significant portion of the continent's Jaydean population, especially on the west coast. Elsewhere in Amsterdavania the population is generally a mixture of native and Delasia settlers, although the east coast have primarily Delasian populations. There are sizable populations of Dannunifian descent Immigration since 1700 has brought Deutscheslavanians, Dannunifians, and Felisorian peoples to the continent, particularly to the east coast.

The national capital, Antwa, has the largest population and is the economic, cultural, and political center of the countries. Since the Forth World Conflict, the urban population has rapidly expanded. Anthoy, whose population is nearly 10,000,000, is the largest city of Amsterdavania and one of the fastest growing cities of its size in the world. Outside the cities the population density of the continent is very low, with vast portions of the interior virtually uninhabited; most of the people live within 200 mi (320 km) of the coast.

Manufacturing, Economy and Energy-
Beginning in the 16th century, the exploitation of the continent's resources and the development of its industries were the result of foreign investment and initiative, especially that of Deutscheslavania, Dannunifius, and the Northern Jamsterdavanian Colonies, but since the Jamsterdavanian Civil War and after the Fourth World Conflict Amsterdavania has sought greater economic independence. An increasing number of Amsterdavanian industrial centers have developed heavy industries to supplement the light industries on which they developed in the early 1900’s.

An early obstacle to industrial growth in Amsterdavania was the scarcity of coal. The continent has therefore relied on its petroleum reserves, most notably in the north and also in the western Jaydean region, as a source of fuel. Amsterdavanians also have gradually developed their natural-gas reserves; hydroelectric plants produce most of the continent's electricity. Iron ore and copper deposits are plentiful in the Jaydean highlands. Other important mineral resources include tin in central Amsterdavania, manganese and gold in the north, and bauxite in the south.

Subsistence farming is widespread, with about 30% of the people working about 15% of the land. Dense forests, steep slopes, and unfavorable climatic conditions, along with crude agricultural methods, limit the amount of cultivable land. Commercial agriculture, especially of the plantation type, fares better in terms of production because of the large scale and the opportunity to use modern, mechanized methods.

Among the agricultural exports are coffee, bananas, sugarcane, tobacco, and grains. Meat is also an important export. In the interior, hunting and gathering of forest products are the chief economic activities of the indigenous peoples. Fishing is also a central industry. In the more accessible areas, forest products are removed for export.

History-
Deutscheslavanian exploration and penetration of Amsterdavania started at the beginning of the 16th cent. Under the Treaty of Arrac, Deutscheslavania claimed what is the north, and Dannunifius claims were established throughout the rest of the continent. A Deutscheslavanian culture and Church oriented culture were early New World transplants—as were coffee, sugarcane, and wheat. The subjugation of the indigenous nomads was a long process of assimilation and accompaniment to settlement efforts, particularly those of Dannunifius. Augustine Lesso conquered The Amster Empire, centered at Yarro, between 1531–35. Other native cultures quickly declined or assimilated in the face of the Delasians, conversion attempts, and subjugation. Deutscheslavania and Dannunifius maintained their colonies in South America until the Jamsterdavanian Revolution, when both Northern and Southern Jamsterdavanian continents created the independent state of Jamesterdavania.

The liberated Jamsterdavania generally struggled with political governing such a large nation, as time went on the southern portion of Jamsterdavania, the Amsterdavanian continent, felt neglected by the Jamsterdavanian government in Premont and pushed to form Jamsterdavania into a confederation to provide for more regional control.

Between 1820 and 1860, tension grew between the two regions of Jamsterdavania and a four-year civil war was fought between 1861 and 1865. Amsterdavania gained independence from Jamsterdavania in 1865.

The Jamsterdavanian Olive Branch Proposal of 1865 granted full independence in exchange for free trade and military unity. The next year Jamsterdavania ceded Swamptree to Amsterdavania.

Jamsterdavania and Amsterdavania struggled to heal their wounds after the civil war and final reconciled in 1908 with a renewed non-aggression pact and political & economic agreement.

Beginning in the 1930s, road building and the clearing of land led to the period of growth known as the “Great Amsterdavanian Movement.”

With no economic problems and social inequality the political stability of Amsterdavania has been used as a model for modern confederations on the Felisorian Peninsula and Stenfine. Many indigenous peoples, affected by centuries of domination by a primarily Delasian-descended upper class, have returned to the exploration of their roots. Despite the increasing industrialization of some regions, Amsterdavania carefully balances its environmental protection through conservation.
