Achtungland, Deutscheslavania-

Achtungland is located in the southeast corner of the Delasian continent, bounded by on the North by Vattland on the South by Veravania, on the east by the Tranquillitas Ocean and on the west by the Platterland. The population is 967,899 (est. 2000), ranking 3rd among Deutscheslavanian Principalities. The capital is Kenderhaldt, with 25,345 inhabitants.

Achtungland is a Deutscheslavanian work that means "Awareness of the Land." The Principality's nickname is Ackita, which is a shortened version that first entered use in the last 1700's. The Dannunifians first explored the territory in 1034 A.D. as Harbarch Merino searched for the Tommie Expedition. Initial reports reported the Deutscheslavs, a tribe of Deutscheslavanian Natives that had allied themselves against Edgar Tommie's growing settlement. The Deutscheslavs proved to be the Tommie's main rivals in the 1000's and 1100's. In 1189, the Great Union was agreed between the Deutscheslav Tribes and the Tommench Government. The common language and cultural ways led to nearly a century of peace. By 1293, the Tommench Lines and House of Tommie had given way to a more Deutscheslav way of life. The Tomcovy Agreement, called the Grosserbinheit von Tomko, established the Royal Union of Deutscheslavania united under King Zender Warcia Klief.

The Deutscheslavs, or Deutscheslavanians as they are referred to after 1293, relocated to Tomcovy and established Achtungland as a Principality with Prince Jacob Kasterhorst as its first prince.

Achtungland was plagued with strife in the 19th and 20th centuries. A growing nationalism toward an independent Achtungland began with the dawn of the 1800's and has been a motivating force in the region since then. The move for an independent Achtungland reached its peak in the 1890's but was put down by the then Royal Deutscheslavanian government. The movement arose again in the 1990's, but was organized along political lines rather than military ones.

Traditionally, Achtungland has been an agricultural principality, but industrialization after the Third World War has led to increasing urban centers. Actungland, in recent years, has seen a surge in tourism since King Thomas Sealoske granted Achtungland commonwealth status.

Land and Resources-
Achtungland is divided into two basic regions, the plains of the North and the Veraland Mountains in the South. Four major rivers run down from the Veraland mountains and empty into the Tranquillitas Ocean. These rivers provide water and transportation to the people of Achtungland. The southern plains provide much of the food for the principality. Oil and coal can be found in the foothills of the Veraland mountains. Precious stones are an important export of this region. The foothills are a domed mountain region composed of an ancient crystalline core with deep valleys. These valleys provide much of the lumber for Achtungland. In fact, Actungland is, of all the Deutscheslavanian Domestic Principalities, the most self-reliant.

People-
The culture in Achtungland much more rigid than in other parts of Deutscheslavania. Military service is a part of public education and religious devotion is more visible and more a part of public life. The language is much closer to Old Deutscheslav that the modern Deutscheslavanian spoken in other parts of the country. Most Dannunifian influences are not found in language or literature of Achtungland.

People of Actungland are bound by a code of Honor called Deutschenheiss. This almost military code makes up the work ethic of the working people and has resulted in a prime economy for most of the 20th century despite uprisings and Global Wars. Women find work in garment making and service industries while men do the heavy farming and manufacturing. Most citizen in the Achtungland take great pride in the number and quality of precious stone that are finely polished and mined in the western section. A healthy trade and culture has revolved around the rubies and emeralds that are cut to a particular shape.

The Tommie Party relocated the main security service to Achtungland in the 1950's and 1960's. The result was the first of the "Great Purges." This attempt to reinvent and restructure Deutscheslavania took a heavy toll on the citizens of Achtungland. Nearly a quarter of the population was unaccounted for.

The 1980's was a time of cultural reawakening as the restored Deutsch Royalty attempted to reestablish old practices in all its Principalities.

Manufacturing and Energy
Manufacturing was slow growing in the late 19th Century. The predominance of Agriculture in Actungland hampered that growth of cities. Systems of trade schools were opened in 1878 by the Crown to foster industrial development. This action had the effect of causing a migration from Actungland to Dununder and the Eastern part of Delasia.
