The Early Tufus- The early Tufus were characterized by the founding of the empire. Alternating Periods of expansion and building. Tufu established his control over several nomadic tribes and founded the world’s first real city. Tufu Tu, the word “tu” being ancient Felisorian for “son of,” ushered in a period of building and consolation. Tufu Recis, the word “recis” meaning grandson in ancient Felisorian, gave the empire its first real expansion.
The Early Tufus were able leaders that did much to help foster Tufan culture. Hectorian Tufu established the practice of assimilating conquered peoples and their best cultural traits into the Tufan culture. The establishment of places of learning and debate mark Hectorian Tufu as a great patron of arts and science.
Tufian Tu, however, marked and exception to the early Tufus; he was prone to what several historians after his death call “laxumerizo,” or laziness. Supporters of this cousin, Rectorius, assassinated Tufian Tu.
Ianuarisus is often referred to as the last of the Early Tufus due to the fact that Ianuarisus led the last attempt to expand the empire into modern Fineland. Ianuarisus died in the attempt with no heir.
The Felican Tufus- Without a leader, the Tufan Empire might collapse. Most of the direct descendents of Tufu died in the wars of Ianuarisus, this left a power vacuum. Felisius, the Count of Felica, seemed the natural choice. He was the son-in-law of Ianuarisus and he controlled the capital. Felisius, fasted a month before accepting the position of Emperor.
The Felican Emperors never ventured far from Felica and depended on the information of trusted generals. There was no expansion of the Empire during the 175 years the Felican Emperors were in power. There was, however, and explosion of culture.
During this age the word “Tufu” came to mean king and was affixed to all following Emperors as a title.
The Emperor Doyan was educated in the five known languages and commissioned a body to review and explain the sciences, arts and linguistics.
Lestern Tufu invented a notation for writing music, which survives in the ancient Church records and is the basis for more modern methods.
Lestern Tu renounced the thrown due to his extremely poor health and passed the crown to Lesterius shortly before his death. Lesterius, who was Lestern Tu’s second son, had studied to become a holy man and originally did not want the title. Lesterius, like Felisius, fasted and sought the spiritual advise of the Sage of Felica.
Lesterius eventually accepted the title to prevent a civil war that he was sure would happen otherwise.
The Pax Tufus- Lesterius was the first of the Pax Tufus, called so because of the many years of prosperity and expansion. Lesterius constructed the Temple of Mari at Arrac, which he named for his wife and dedicated to the one God.
The Temple of Mari, and other works like it throughout the Empire, spread the Tufan culture and religious ideas throughout the north to the Dannesian tribes who inhabited the land that would later be Dannunifius. The Explosion of Tufan culture in Dannunifius prompted the Dannesian tribes to organize into city-states. The Pax Tufan emperors established trade with these states developing trade routes and diplomatic relations.
The Pax Tufan emperors also established relations with Stenfinian powers of the day. Although the Stenfinians did not organize and adopt Tufan government, they did design a system on money that the Tufans began to use.
The earliest Tufan coins bear the image of the Emperor Felix II and were made of bronze and copper. By the death of time of the death of the Emperor Edbert Tufan coins were in use throughout Dannunifius and Stenfine.
Edbert, the last of the Pax Tufan emperors, married a princess of the Dannesian tribes, Esterha. Upon his death, the Empire fell to the son of Edbert and Esterha, Julius Mateo Tufu. Julius Mateo Tufu favored the Dannesian tribes and constructed a new capital that he named Sacia for the north and continued Felica in the south. The divided empire began its steady decline.
The Declining Tufus- Julius Mateo Tufu began a series of events that would ultimately lead to the fall of the Tufan Empire. By dividing the Empire and favoring the north over the southern and western regions, Julius Mateo Tufu created resentment in the populations of those regions.
Julius Mateo Tufu is described by the historian Nades as being more “Dannesian than Tufan,” it is believed that he spoke Dannesian instead of ancient Felisorian.
During the reign of the Emperor Ianuario Tufu, the Fines and the nomadic Stefs seized the western lands in Stenfine. Various tribes began to infiltrate the Felisorian peninsula.
A group of tribes, including Fines, Dannesians and nomadic Stefs, united to form a horseback riding group that identified itself as the Marauders of Elise.
This group wreaked havoc on the Tufan cities and trade routes on the Central Plains and so disrupted the Southern Regions that and imperial army of conscripts was called for.
The army was charged with destroying the Marauders, however, the ambitions of the armies commanders reverted them to warlords. The Imperial Army captured city after city in the South as the Marauders raided and captured cities of their own.
Claudius Tufu was the last Tufan ruler, during his reign the system of county government, in place since the days of Hectu and for over 750 years, collapsed. The Marauders of Elise attacked Felica in 3204 B.C., a major battle was fought in which most of Felica was burned.
The Marauders of Elise conquered the remaining Felicans and the Emperor fled to Sacia. The Marauders of Elise found themselves poor conquerors and appointed a body known as the Elixian Sages to over see the construction of a new capital on one of the surrounding hills. They named the new settlement Elix and allowed the ruins of Felica to remain for several hundred years.
The Tufan empire was the world’s first and longest-lived empire. Its fall occurred relatively fast, despite warnings from Nades and other scholars of the day. The Declining Tufus were the direct cause. Since they were Dannesian, they had no cause to support the culture and peoples of the Felisorian Peninsula and may have wanted to establish a new order. Claudius Tufu escaped to Sacia and continued as a Royal Sage among the Dannesian Tribes of Sacia.
