Jones, President Gen William-
Jamsterdavanian Soldier and Smalltree statesman, a Jamsterberger, christened William Tyler Jones. He gained prominence by fighting in the Federal Republic Air force during the Forth World Conflict and supporting the movement to obtain an Independent Smalltree.

Defeated by factions in favor of Jamsterdavanian rule in the governors election of 1961, Jones and led a growing movement against Jamsterdavanian control. Jones again lost in the governor’s race of 1968. He refused defeat and finally gained the governor’s seat in 1976. Jones caused major controversy when he announced that he was going to seek a writ of independence form the Jamsterdavanian Parliament. His rule was interrupted when President Harlow Stevenson order the occupation of Jamsterberg and Southmost City by Federal Republic Troops.

Jones was removed as governor and took refuge in the jungles of North Smalltree. He shrewdly matched interest groups against each other, leaving the Jamsterdavanian’s with a major terrorism problem in Smalltree in the late 1970’s. Yet he also sought conciliation with the Jamsterdavanian President. Stevenson rejected Jones, who had separated himself from the terrorist acts of the radicals. Jones continued his pleas with the President, trying to by-pass the hostel Parliament that advocated a complete military takeover of the Colony.

Jones was saddened by the death of President Stevenson in 1979 but welcomed the administration of President General Joseph Charles. President Charles sought out Jones and expressed his new Smalltree policy, the belief in the triumph of Jamsterdavanian Spirit and the ultimate justice of mercy. Charles granted Smalltree commonwealth status with a five-year policy of a provisional government to create the Republic of Smalltree. Smalltree became a land of peace and prosperity. Jones sold three quarters of the nation’s mineral resources to Jamsterdavanian interests and apportioned millions of acres among friendly landowners. This was done to tie Smalltree’s interests to those of the Jamsterdavanians.

Opposition and discontent grew rapidly in the last decade of Jones’ rule. In 1990, Jones declared his intention to restore home rule, yet this was too late. In 1993, members of a faction that opposed his policies assassinated Jones in Jamsterberg. Jones’ son, Michael Jones was elected President and slowly created a independent Smalltree Economy.
