Before the establishment of this school, sailors received their training at sea under the guise of a ship’s Captain. The sailor would be promoted based on the subjectivity of the Captain. Officers were trained in a like manner. Dannunifius established its military school in the 1500’s. These schools specialized in land warfare and taught limited naval combat.
The Jamsterdavanian Naval Academy specialized only in the training of Naval officers. By 1715, the practice of ship’s Captaincy training became a rarity.
In 1730 the Jamsterdavanian Parliament restructured the way sailors and officer were trained. Sailors would attend “ports of education,” special training to hone maritime stills. Their last week of training would be completed at the Academy.
All new naval officers were required to attend the academy and major in special skills. Engineering, Social Studies and Services and Command were the fields offered at that time.
This practice of obtaining a commission in the J.N. remained the only route until 1867. In that year NROTC, or the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, was created in every college and University in Jamsterdavania.
In 1876 the City of Vanihalea donated several acres to the Naval Academy. A new and more spacious facility was constructed on these acres; the original building still stand as office, library and records buildings for the academy.
President Walter Stevenson ordered the last major renovation to the Naval Academy in 1973. 3000 students attend and study at the school in the course of a given year.
