Janos Degarto was born on March 11, 1748 to Sir Clemente Degarto and Lady Catarina Esse de Degarto. Sir Clemente was a Colonel in the Royal Dannunifian Army attached to the Legion of Sacia. In 1745 he was married to Catarina Esse sister to the then Bishop of Sacia Darvino Esse. The Janos was raised to be a soldier and schooled at the Academe Saciano, a military school for diplomats and soldiers. In 1769 Janos entered the army as a brevet second lieutenant where he led a small garrison at Carratez, Dannunifius.
Janos remained in the army until 1785 when he was offered a job with the diplomatic service. His military service gained him a rank of junior ambassador to Deutscheslavania. In 1794 he was made an assistant ambassador, but was recalled by King Carlos Acmedia to act as chief advisor on Deutscheslavanian matters.
Upon the death of Carlos Acmedia in 1805 he was made the Crown Protectorate, a prestigious title that stressed Degarto’s nerves. In 1806 due to a lack of an heir apparent, key advisors begin drafting a Constitutional Monarchy despite Degarto’s warnings of backlash. The ruling House of Danis had ordered that a constitution be drafted in 1790, but the measure had never truly been considered until the death of King Carlos V. When news of this information spread, Dannunifius was faced with the threat of a civil war. Janos was able to stave off war until 1808 when Stefan Donox, an illegitimate child of Carlos Acmedia, made a petition to the throne. Janos, first rejecting the claim, made the political mistake of throwing this support to Donox. The Treyland Principality of Carlone rejected the Dannunifian Janos’ decision to Crown Stefan Donox King of the New Constitutional Monarchy.
True Monarchists in Treyland assumed command of the Royal Dannunifian Army of Treyland stationed on the island and marched on Carlone on May 4, 1808. Archduke Trevor Bunbenic assumed the Principality and was installed as the First King of Treyland by Archbishop Donaldo Cardinal Degrasse. Bunbenic declares the Royal House of Treyland as a true monarchy.
Donox, with the full support of Janos, waged a two-year war against Treyland known as the Treylandian Revolution. When the Dannunifian Principality of Treyland began its split from the Dannunifian United Kingdom in 1808, parties in Deutscheslavania watched with an interested eye. Janos was appointed by Donox to assume the full ambassadorship to Deutscheslavania to deter Deutscheslavanian interest in the matter. Janos was unsuccessful in that effort, but continued as ambassador until his death in 1820.
