The battle occurred on January 15, 1920 off the coast of Nordanis. A task force under the command of Admiral A. H. Ventiliner was dispatched from Gerald Harbor, Riosland. It was made up a three battleship groups, including three small early aircraft carriers. Ventiliner commanded the battleship J.S.S. Jamsterdavania. Initially Ventiliner contemplated dividing his forces to blockade Northern Deutscheslavanian ports. This plan was abridged when a report of a Deutscheslavanian task force shelling Dannunifian coastal cities came in.
Admiral Helmut Von Kleist struggled to collect a large group of ships for defense of the Deutscheslavanian coast. Despite his initial difficulties he was able to gather what equaled four battleship groups. He had orders to disrupt shipping to Dannunifius and Nordanis as a prelude to invasion. At the last minute, the Deutscheslavanian High Command ordered an assault against Riosland and the Jamsterdavanian east coast.
The two opposing battle groups were on a collision course. On January 14 the two groups made contact. Admiral Von Kleist deployed his destroyers and frigates to try to penetrate to the Jamsterdavanian task force’s battleships.
The Jamsterdavanians took heavy losses during the first hours, but Ventiliner deployed his carriers. Five Deutscheslavanian destroyers were sunk in one hour by early dive-bombers.
The Jamsterdavania took a direct hit and Ventiliner transferred his flag to the Battleship J.S.S. Constellation.
By 5:00 p.m. on the 15th, the Deutscheslavanian fleet had suffered too many losses and had with drawn.
Deutscheslavania never recovered control of the Northern Sea and was forced to re-deploy its Dununder Fleet to make up the loss.
